REVIVING AN ANCIENT ART
I specialise in heritage baskets based on the research of old techniques, using locally-sourced materials. Creatively, I enjoy using these time-honoured designs as a stimulus for making contemporary baskets and modern art-works.
MADE-TO-MEASURE REQUESTS
I am not a production-line basket maker, although I do work on batches and themes of style.
Over the years I have made just about everything, from donkey creels to linen baskets, wool baskets, fruit baskets, bushel sized baskets suitable for logs, Castle Donington fine skeined baskets, copies of old agricultural baskets used for fruit picking and harvesting, bee hives, bird cages, bike baskets etc.
A large part of my work is specially commissioned. I make willow coffins to order, and child’s cradles. I have also made dog baskets, picnic baskets, and rush hats.
RESTORATION
I repair cane and rush seats, cradles and delicate tea pot handles. I also restore antique basketry objects which sometimes need nothing more than some gentle TLC!
